NEWSLETTER Monday March 5 (week 4):

Hi everyone,

Thank you for your wonderful and creative introductions!

Did you have a good look at the school pages of the other participants?

Some schools have not yet presented themselves. Please post your introduction asap this week, to meet each other before you continue working together.

This week we’ll start the challenges.

We all know that many rights are not accessible to all children. Together we can think about issues of importance, we will share our own experiences and research as a group.

In this way, we will understand more about children's rights and what they mean to you.

The reflective questions for the challenges (also in sidebar) can help you to decide which assignments to choose.

Work on one or more challenges with your class or divide the class into smaller groups to work on various assignments.

You can find interesting websites on the page with Resources

Until April 2 each group has four weeks to work on the Challenges. Time to discuss and do research in your own group, but also to connect with the other students in your Circle; please take a good look at all pages of the other classes. We hope you will all come up with a lot of feedback on the work of other groups; that's what makes working in a Learning Circle unique and exciting!

We are looking forward to your ideas and contributions,

Good luck!

Manon van Herwijnen

N.B.: A request to carefully read the pages: 'uploading filesand 'Background information';

Follow the guidelines about resizing pictures, visibility of files and presentations, and restrictions on downloading is important for all.

NEWSLETTER Monday March 12 (week 5):

Hi everyone,

Melting snow in Canada and Ukraine, almost spring in parts of Europe, always summer in Nepal and Suriname...

Sunny or rainy days, what matters for a child is growing up in a safe and loving home.

In the Challenges you are focusing on issues of importance to all children.

We are very curious which assignments you have chosen in this phase and how you are going to tackle them.

The learning process is as valuable as the results! This Circle is all about learning with and from each other. So it’s important to keep the others posted on your school page.

The reflective questions for the challenges (see sidebar) can help to make a good start. Interesting websites can be found on the page Resources.

Everyone likes to read feedback or comments from other schools. That’s the way to find out what other students learn from all your ideas and contributions.

Please take your time to carefully look at the pages and give feedback as much as you can, directly on the school pages.

Have circle fun!

Looking ahead: In April, all groups will have 2 Skype meetings with other classes. Wise to organize this in time. You can read more about your upcoming exciting meetings on this page.

From April 2 to 9 your class comes up with a good question about Children's Rights for your Circle classmates. You can already start thinking now what might be a good question.

In case of questions --> do not hesitate to contact me via mail, phone or Skype.

NEWSLETTER Monday March 26 (week 7):

Dear participants,

We are starting the last week of the phase of challenges.

Some schools are working on the assignments with a lot of involvement, but we notice that not many schools keep each other updated about their choices for children's rights assignments.

Several schools have asked to extend the period of the challenges in April.

That's possible of course, but we do want to emphasize that it's important that all schools do add their own question in the wiki in the week of 2 to 9 April.

In this way, the process of collaboration in this Children's Rights project, won't stop!

Participants indicate that they enjoy 'live contact' with other schools.

In April, schools will therefore arrange at least two Skype meetings: This page explains more.

It is your own responsibility to organize this, regarding the time schedule that suits your class.

Do not hesitate to contact us for assistance.

Good luck and have a good week,

Manon

NEWSLETTER Monday April 2 (week 8):

Dear participants,

We welcome you to the Questions and Answers Phase. In this first week, every class comes up with one good question about Children's Rights for the other participants in the Circle.

Classes can be divided into groups to answer all questions in the coming weeks. In this way, students from different schools can work closely on the same question.

Answers can be posted on the wiki.

At the same time schools are still working on the challenges.

NEWSLETTER Tuesday April 10 (week 9):

Yesterday was the deadline for your own question, to be answered by the other schools in the upcoming three weeks of the third phase.
Some schools have added their question to this page, and they are all so great! You really did a great job on creating good questions for the other students to work with.

Now we can get even more excited to see all the answers!

However, many schools did not yet add their question.

To make the circle a success for all of you, participation is key!

So we must urge you again to please add one question per school to the list, so your fellow students from the other classes can start working on their answers!

The same goes for giving feedback and organize video meetings. It’s your wish to enable students to meet and collaborate in a global classroom, so take your chance!

It's nice to know how others appreciate your work and live contact via webcam is so much fun!

Please take a good look at all the school pages and respond to the invitation to set a date on this page.

Don´t hesitate to contact us if you run into any problems.

Have a great week and good luck!

On behalf of the LC team, Manon

NEWSLETTER Monday May 14 (week 14):

Hello everyone,

Many schools enjoyed a lovely May break. We hope you are ready to start the last Circle phase with lots of energy!

'Officially' phases 2 & 3 are closed now, but some groups are still working on their challenges and Q & A's.

Please keep sharing your process and results with the other participants in this project.

Your contributions are very welcome!

                        **************************************************

---> From today we will start Phase 4 with an individual peerScholar assignment: all teachers received an email last Wednesday with info about creating personal accounts.

(Check your spam box too..)

All students are invited to write a letter to UNICEF, using peerScholarThis is an innovative online pedagogical tool that supports students’ collaboration, peer learning and reflection.

Based on learning experiences in the past months, students are invited to write this letter individually.

The tool peerScholar will connect all students: they will give and receive feedback from 3 students from another school in the Children's Rights circles.

Please follow this timetable carefully to enable an optimal peer learning process:

---> In the first phase (May 14 - May 20) students can write their letter.

In the second phase (May 21 - May 27) students will give feedback on the letters of three other students in the circle.

In the third phase (May 27 - June 02) of this amazing process of peer learning, students can see the constructive feedback from three of their classmates in the Learning Circle, reflect on their own letter and improve it.

How exciting to see how 'peers' from another school or country carefully read your letter and give comments!

Feel free to email me in case of any questions,

To all students: Good luck with writing your letter!

NEWSLETTER Monday May 28 (week 16):

Hello everyone,

We are starting the last week of the Learning Circles!

Time to complete the challenges, to read the feedback of your peers in the final phase of the peerScholar assignment, and evaluate the Circle process:

The challenges:

Some groups are still working on the challenges and will share their contributions in this Wiki.

Your creations and reports are very welcome!

The completion in peerScholar:

The third peerScholar phase ends this weekend; students will reflect on the feedback received and revise their letter to the jury of the Global Teenager project in peerScholar.

--> If you didn't join the individual assignment to complete the Learning Circle: Please post one or more letters on your school page.

Address the letter to UNICEF and include:

  • Your lessons learned and eye-openers during the Learning Circle process.

  • Your ideas about a new Children's Right.

The jury will share the best 3 letters with UNICEF and publish it in all wikis and spread them (through various social media) among many students and teachers participating in various projects of GTP!

Evaluation:

Please add your feedback to your school page: What went really well and what could we improve?

We are very curious to hear your tips and tops; this will help us to prepare the Circles in the future.

Looking forward to your final efforts in this Circle process,

with greetings from the Learning Circle Team,

Bob Hofman,
